Believe - OMMM

Still in the middle of #ICAD2017 so other challenges are overlapping to save time.
This one is also for Our Mixed Media Moods, inspired by this mood board.

I chose to focus on the colours, using a geli print and then layer with golden Payne's grey, golden high flow and Paper Artsy Infusion 'In the Navy'. Waiting for the gold acrylic was too much for me so the heat gun got very close! I knew I would like the bubbling that happened - I think it's my favourite part.

I found some magazine images that matched and layered these with this with sari ribbon and stamped the sentiment on calico.

Imagination - Inspire

A very late post for this month's Mixed Media Moods.
I had the colour, I had the ideas - where did the time go!?
At the time of posting on the Link Up, this is what I had. I'm not sure how, but I think I still have work to do on this.

Angel of Gold

This canvas is inspired by the moodboard put together by Our Mixed Media Moods for March/April.

I had purchased a set of small canvases, thinking I would like t experiment sewing directly onto them with my sewing machine. It didn't happen this time and not sure if it will work - so that's still a work (idea) in progress.

I don't use canvases much, mainly because I'm not sure what I would do with them - at least things are contained and manageable in a journal. Thought I'd give it a go this time - who will the lucky recipient be? - haha!

My inspiration came from the sculpture, stones and lights. Still thinking about that number 8, so maybe soemthing else will come to me yet.

Now... I'm trying to film some of my work, but not really in the habit of doing so - so the camera just wasn't turned on sometimes because I forgot, and then at the end my phone decided to turn off! Because of this, not everything is in the video - or I just pretended I was doing it!! Here's what I did manage to capture and the stills.

Mixed Media Moods - February Again

Feeling super inspired this month so have a second creation for this challenge. While my inspiration came from the top middle segment of the mood board, I did end up with some similarities, with the vertical line created by the jute and sari ribbon.

I wanted to incorporate the star motif and so used a self drawn and cut star that I have used before and really like. The centre of the cut out is used as the star in my other piece.
The texture paste pieces took a bit of work as they lost their shimmer as I hadn´t noticed that the texture paste was matt, so I added more and then sprayed with a fixative to stop it moving. I then wasn´t sure about the big piece so cut it up. I possibly over did the mica paste and I would have liked the star to stand out more, but it is what it is and overall I´m happy with another interesting creation and all the textures.
And ... another video...

Mixed Media Moods - February

This challenge group is really growing now and I do enjoy the creations and inspiration from Deedee and Jenn.

My first page uses inspiration from the mosaic/grid effect in the bottom left. I cut up a brayer roll-off page from Gelli printing for the collaged pieces, with a turquoise glaze over the top. The heart is the inside from the heart in my other piece for this month.
Check out my video below.

Explore, Dream, Discover

This is another piece inspired by Our Mixed Media Moods by DeeDee Catron & Jenn Engle. I love what they do in their art and have finally been brave enough to film a short clip of myself creating. I wasn't brave enough to speak yet, but it's start.
We know how these challenges often overlap and I found that what I created also fitted perfectly with the latest Paper Artsy challenge, Pink & Orange. Traditionally we probably wouldn't put these colours together but in art they look amazing and I loved this piece and the colour combination is sure to appear again. I was especially drawn to the boldness of the Dina Wakley piece, but also the subtleness of Elise Engh's feathers, as posted on the PA blog.

Here is Our MMM inspiration board. My inspiration came from the cloours, top left, and the roses, botton middle.

Mixed Media Moods - January

I have finally got around to creating something for Our Mixed Media Moods hosted by DeeDee Catron and Mixed Media Jenn. I love watching both their videos and am always inspired by what they create.
I was mainly inspired by the bottom middle photo from the mood board, with some added colour and texture. This picture made me think of the Christchurch Cathedral, which was badly damaged in the earthquakes, here in New Zealand, in 2011.

I mostly used greys in the background as I wanted this to be more muted. I used a stamp of the cathedral, as it was, to give the effect of a shadow, then stamped it a gain in black on card, ripping off the broken parts and layering it with raised tape over the shadow. The background stamping is an invoice type stamp (I think Heidi Swapp) which funnily enough I think I used as it was one of the prompts from VLV Stamps :)  - I was doing them both at the same time - but it works here. I wanted to add a little colour and texture so used the Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint, coloured, through a stencil. The final stamp is a sculpture which is also found in Cathedral Square.
